HSBC Life is supporting everyone in Hong Kong to live a healthy lifestyle in order to fulfil their life promises. In line with its vision of promoting health and wellness in the community, HSBC Life has launched its “Badminton Experience Tour” – a series of interactive badminton-themed activities for the Hong Kong community, with the kick-off event in Mong Kok on 11 July 2019.

Badminton is one of the most accessible and inclusive sports in the world. Research reveals that, as one of the top sports, badminton can extend longevity for as many as six years[1]. Racquet sports including badminton outweigh swimming, aerobics and running in reducing all-cause mortality by 47%[2], which makes badminton the perfect sport to build a healthier community.

Edward Moncreiffe, Hong Kong Chief Executive Officer, HSBC Life, said, “Badminton is a popular sport in Hong Kong – it is fun and highly accessible which makes it an easy and effective option for Hongkongers to keep active. As Hong Kong’s leading life insurer and the life-long partner of our customers, we have been actively rolling out initiatives that can help the people of Hong Kong to live fitter and happier lives. This “Badminton Experience Tour” enables HSBC Life to be more connected to the community and hopefully encourages more Hongkongers to pick up a racquet and play.”

The “Badminton Experience Tour”, with a theme of “behind every racquet is a sincere promise”, is the sequel to HSBC Life’s badminton activation in 2018 in support of the Group’s partnership with the Badminton World Federation (BWF). With the success and overwhelming response from last year’s events recording more than 14,000 total participants, this year’s event series has extended to cover more districts. Starting from The FOREST in Mong Kok from 11 to 14 July, the “Badminton Experience Tour” will travel to different locations, including Lok Fu, Sau Mau Ping, Tin Shui Wai and more, for a longer time period from July to November; in order to let more Hongkongers enjoy the fun experience of badminton.

Special guests in attendance at the kick-off event include Viktor Axelsen, current World Number Three and the 2017 BWF World Championships men’s singles champion; and Cheung Ngan-yi, the highest world ranking women’s singles badminton player in Hong Kong.

Viktor Axelsen shared at the event, saying, “Badminton has been a crucial part of my life and it has been my promise to myself to learn from the best players in the world and share my knowledge with the wider community. In order to learn from the best players in China, I have been studying Mandarin since 2015; it’s amazing that badminton has led me to a new language skill.”

Cheung Ngan-yi, who started playing badminton at the age of six, commented, “I have put a lot of effort and time into being a professional badminton player. With persistence, my hard work has paid off, and I look forward to fulfilling even more promises to myself at the upcoming BWF World Championships in Basel this August!”

Created with the goal of bringing badminton experiences to the community, engagement activities in the event series include AirBadminton, an outdoor game jointly launched by HSBC and BWF, along with a combination of fun challenges, photo opportunities and exclusive gift redemptions. More details as follows:

Engagement activities include:

Scores will be posted on the leaderboard at each roadshow, with rewards for the final top five players in November .
