Percussive Piano Hong Kong 2015
Laurens de Boer X Hong Kong Composers
Pianist from the Netherlands

Gifted Dutch pianist Laurens de Boer
Exploration of jazz-groove piano hybrid with Hong Kong Composers

Laurens de Boer, a multi-facetted pianist from the Netherlands, his work traverses between avant-garde classical music and contemporary music. The “Percussive Piano Project” initiated by Laurens in Europe is one of his recent highlights. He commissioned composers to compose new piano pieces. Laurens’s project is characterized by a canorously modulated blend of virtuoso jazz between varying key strokes, immaculately exploring the possibilities of jazz groove within percussive piano playing.

Laurens’s collaboration with Hong Kong composers promised to impress audience with the intricacies of piano hammers and strings. Added to the newly composed piano pieces ‘The Groove is in the Groove’* by Leung Chi-hin, ‘Yin Yang Yin-Yang’* by Viola Yip, ‘Messages from the Clouds’ by Ng Cheuk-yin and ‘Discovering…a Mystery’ by Wong Chun-wai, music pieces composed by European composers will also be presented in this edition of Percussive Piano Project Hong Kong. (*World Premiere)
