Inspired by the Human Library organisation, in which people share stories and experiences through conversation, M+ is presenting its own human library at Art Basel Hong Kong 2019. The M+ Human Library aims to create dialogue and deepen understanding between M+ and the public. The ‘books’ in this library are the people who make up our museum and creative practitioners who have worked with us in the past, and we offer two ways to experience our library: ‘A Dialogue with M+ Staff’ and ‘A Walk with Creatives’. Our human library is an invitation for you to join in an exchange, to become a co-producer of culture in the highly visual context of the art fair. If you have ever been curious about the faces behind M+, visit our library! Register for a session now.

‘A Dialogue with M+ Staff’

Museums are more than objects. M+ is full of professionals from diverse fields and backgrounds who work to ensure an enjoyable and meaningful experience for you. To drive the engine of the museum, we currently have a team of 140, comprising 18 nationalities, and we are still growing. Members of the M+ staff from the Curatorial, Museum Operations, and Collection and Exhibition teams - over 50 ‘human books’ - are available to you in our library. Prompted by questions you contribute or select from the M+ booth, each ‘human book’ recounts behind-the-scenes stories about life and work at the museum, while also inviting you to share your own thoughts and expectations about M+. If there is something you have always wanted to know about us, this is your chance.

Date and Time:
Sessions are held every hour on the hour, and last 45 minutes.

‘A Walk with Creatives’

Art Basel Hong Kong is full of visual resources, and it could prompt you to look at the ever-changing world around you in new ways. Human books in this library—past M+ collaborators—accompany you for a walk that is inspired from their creative practices, to experience much more than what is on display at the fair.

Creatives use their imaginative and critical perspectives to guide and connect with participants in the walk. We hope this intimate experience inspires you, in the context of the fair, to develop new ways of seeing your future museum visits.

Books in the library include:
Tang Kwok Hin, Artist
William Lane, Musician and Curator
Ching Siu Wai, Magazine Publisher
Sara Wong, Artist and Landscape Architect

Date and Time:
1–6pm on 29 March, 1-4pm on 30 March, and 12–5pm on 31 March
Sessions are held every hour on the hour, and last 45 minutes.
