‘Now let’s celebrate’, Pippi shouted, as she got back on her feet. ‘Let’s celebrate until we raise the roof of Villa Villekulla.’

For 75 years Astrid Lindgren’s fictional character Pippi Longstocking has entertained, astonished, questioned and provoked audiences all over the world. Pippi is adored by children, and people of all ages consider her a role model and a symbol for independence and anti-authoritarianism to this day. With her mismatched stockings, carrot-coloured hair and freckly face, not to mention super-human strength and resilience, Pippi Longstocking has become a cultural icon. She is self-sufficient, quick-witted, generous and never letting anything – or anyone – shake her self-belief or take advantage. Pippi is regularly voted as one of the world’s favourite children’s characters.

Welcome to get to know Pippi Longstocking better! Celebrate her 75th birthday by visiting her exhibition & reading corner in Hong Kong’s cultural centre - relax, read, play and have fun together your child!
