Welcome to the 2022 edition of the European Union Film Festival!

The European Union Office to Hong Kong and Macao, in close collaboration with the Member States and Switzerland and in association with the Broadway Cinematheque, is pleased to present the European Union Film Festival 2022. Here’s a sneak peek of our opening and closing films!

Human dignity, freedom and human rights are the fundamental values of the European Union. The festival opens with the screening of The Forgotten, the story of a language teacher who cannot leave her city occupied by separatists in eastern Ukraine. We hope to demonstrate our staunch support and solidarity to Ukraine and its people as we stand up jointly and firmly for peace and freedom.

The festival will close with a Polish film Leave No Traces. In 1983, communist Poland is shaken by the case of high school student Grzegorz Przemyk, who is beaten to death by police. Shot on 16mm, the film impresses with visual sophistication and authentic period details. It also sends a profound message about state-sanctioned violence, which is still very much relevant today.

Stay tuned for the full line-up!
