Dualities 2: The State of Innocence The State of Innocence is the second duo show to launch under our Duality series. Featuring the works of Japanese artist Kentaro Kobuke and Chinese artist Nini Sum, the show pairs together the fantasy worlds of two inquisitive soul searchers. Donning on robes of innocence, they ferry theirs souls into the open realm of naivete and become at one with nature, myths and the truth of the subconscious. At once charming, surreal and quietly subversive, the complimenting works of Kobuke and Sum exudes an other-worldly quality; despite a quaint feeling of isolation and despair, somewhere on the horizon, a mysterious invitation of possibility hovers, bringing with it transformation and renewal. Kentaro Kobuke Fusing his native Japanese innocence with contemporary primal instincts, Kentaro Kobuke’s work warms and grabs the heart with an evocative fantasy world filled with contours, masks and the transcendence of men into nature and nature into men. Born in Hiroshima in 1975, Kobuke gratuated with an MA in Fine Art from the Chelsea College of Art and Design in 2009. Since then he's been based in London. Over the past ten years, he has held solo shows and various group exhibitions in Tokyo, Osaka, Paris, Seoul and London. His recent exhibitions include Nakata Museum, Japan. Nini Sum Combining figurative drawings, surrealism and abstract painting with her favorite personal symbology, Nini Sum's works represent a visual and tangible interplay between philosophy, fantasy and the world of dreams. Enter it and one will find a string of free associative ideas muddled by tactile sensory and perceived reality. Born 1986 in Nanjing, the Shanghai-based artist is a Visual Communication graduate at Jiangnan University. Her recent shows include No Man's Art -Pop Up Gallery, Shanghai, China 2013, “See, Saw” at Identity Art Gallery, Hong Kong; “Spot Light- China Youth Art Exhibition 2012”, Shanghai, China.
