The VArtCommunity, kaitak – Centre for Research and Development in Visual Arts announced today that a community arts exhibition entitled The Blind Carbon Copy (BCC) to Kowloon City will be organized from 18 January to 14 February 2014 at the gallery of Kai Tak Campus, showcasing four groups of artworks created by the alumni of the Academy of Visual Arts.
With the conversion of the former airport into the cruise terminal now in place, Kowloon City has undergone a radical transformation in respect of its social fabrics. Inspired by the evolving cityscape of Kowloon City, this exhibition is about the untold secrets that the 5 artists discovered through a long period of observation when they rambled through the streets and lanes of the district, such as the consistent and harmonic colour combinations, the notion of change from the airport to the cruise terminal, and the relationship between the building height and sound in the district.
The artists transformed these delicate yet ever-changing imprints hidden in the dank alleyways of the district into a wide range of imaginative and stimulating works. Through their artistic creation, the artists offer their alternative observations in an attempt to portray the past as well as the present of the district, renewing and rebuilding the memories of the community. These secrets can be beautiful and romantic, but can also be about some unexplainable relationships. They are just like some BCC emails unintentionally received by the artists, waiting to reappear in another way.
*Four sections of guided tour will be arranged for the public about the exhibition and the heritage of the former Royal Air Force Officers’ Mess (Grade I historical building in Hong Kong). For registration and enquiries, please contact Ms. Lam at 3411 8210 or through email at [email protected]. First come, first served.
