農村姑娘米凱拉帶著荷西母親的書信，來到塞維利亞尋找士兵荷西。與米凱拉相見後，荷西被捲入煙廠女工的打鬥，並奉長官之命拘捕了美豔不羈的吉卜賽女郎卡門。卡門知道，只有她的魅力能幫自己重獲自由。但她並未為意這魅力將引發的致命激情⋯
當今歌劇壇最受歡迎的卡門之一，由意大利女高音 Anna Caterina Antonacci 飾演女主角卡門，而唱對手戲的男高音 Nikolai Schukoff，自巴黎的成功演出後，獲邀到紐約大都會歌劇院再演荷西一角。
