A beguiling history, unique façades and iconic stilt houses have compelled eight local and international photographers to capture the enchanting character of Tai O, the fishing village in Lantau’s southwestern corner. The nostalgic landscape, the lifestyles of its inhabitants, and its culinary treasures are beautifully documented in this exhibition.
Dubbed the “Venice of the Orient”, Tai O’s roots can be traced back to the Song Dynasty. In their endeavour to capture its essence through their lens, the photographers themselves have fallen captive to Tai O’s charm, simplicity and tranquility. One of the photographers, artist Irene Flanhardt, became so enchanted by Tai O’s pervasive energy, harmony and cohesion, that she has established a permanent presence there with her gallery, Flanhardt Galerie und Atelier.
Participating in this exhibition alongside Irene are Philip Chan, Karen Choi, Chris Coelho, Tracey van Geest, Annie Kwong, Leon Suen and Mable Tsang. This group consists of artists, professional and freelance photographers who have exhibited before, locally or overseas.
