Description
"I know of no musician whose Bach playing on any instrument is of greater subtlety, beauty of tone, persuasiveness of judgement or instrumental command than Hewitt's is here" - BBC Music Magazine “If you want the sheer joy of human creation and recreation, then go to a piano recital by Angela Hewitt” - The Times Angela Hewitt, the foremost interpreter of Bach of our time, will be playing at the Grand Hall, Lee Shau Kee Lecture Centre, HKU on Thursday 27 February at 8pm. In this concert, she will be presenting works by Bach, Beethoven, and Liszt. You are invited to hear how she reveals the characteristics of each piece and the intricate relationships among these three composers, on the newly acquired Steinway piano in the Grand Hall. Hewitt’s ten-year project to record the entire major keyboard works of Bach has been hailed as one of the recorded glories of our age and her musicianship and virtuosity make her one of the most captivating and in-demand classical performers. Her discography also includes CDs of Beethoven, Schumann, Messiaen, Ravel, Chopin, Couperin, Rameau and Chabrier. She was given the title ‘Artist of the Year’ at the 2006 Gramophone Awards and was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in the same year. Hewitt regularly appears in recitals and with major orchestras throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia. Currently, she is the Artistic Director of the Trasimeno Music Festival in Umbria. “Music in Words”, a pre-concert conversation between Angela Hewitt and Prof. Daniel Chua on Beethoven’s Op. 110, will be held at 6:45-7:30pm in the Grand Hall. As an education institute, HKU hopes to engage audience and students on a deeper level and provide a third dimension to the recital. The talk is free and open to not only all ticket holders, but also all HKU students and staff with a valid University ID.
