If The EcoChic Awards 2013 Grand Finals left as much of an impression on you as they did on us - or if God forbid you missed them all together - you now have a final chance to see these recycled fashion formations during the last few days of a Causeway Bay exhibition. The sustainable fashion competition, which tasked aspiring designers with creating mainstream clothing with minimal textile waste as part of Hong Kong Fashion Week in January, is sending all eight finalists’ collections on a touring exhibition. The reworked outfits are set to travel to each finalist’s home country, starting right here in Hong Kong, the home of third runner-up Alex Law. The awards are the brainchild of Redress, an NGO on a mission to promote environmental sustainability in the fashion industry. It is estimated that 132 million tonnes of coal and 6-9 trillion litres of water are consumed by the fashion industry each year, and that China alone produces more than 20 million tonnes of textile waste annually. First Prize of the EcoChic Design Awards was claimed by Karen Jessen from Germany, who will now create this year’s ‘Recycled Collection by Esprit’ and reconstruct a used outfit for renowned Chinese singer Sandy Lam. Catch a glimpse of Karen's winning collection and the other selected runway showstoppers at Hysan Place before the end of the week, after which they will move on to London.
