After the outstanding success of the inclusion of the qualification tournament for HSBC Sevens World Series' (HSBC SWS) core team status held last year in Hong Kong, the world-famous Hong Kong Sevens has again been trusted by the IRB with playing a formative role in determining future core teams on the World Series.
Reinforcing its customary role as the largest and most international of HSBC SWS events, Hong Kong will retains position as the largest event on HSBC Sevens World Series with 28 participating teams and 70 matches.
In addition to the 15 core teams taking part on this season's HSBC SWS, Hong Kong will host a 16th team in the main event and a 12-team international qualifier tournament in 2014.
PRIZE
Organized by the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union, the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens represents much at stake for the 28 teams. In addition to the prestigious title, the following prize money is up for grabs:
Total: USD 150,000
Cup Champions: USD 100,000
Cup Runner-ups: USD 25,000
Semi-finalists: USD 12,500 (Each)
Ticket
As in past years, Hong Kong Sevens tickets will first be assigned to all Hong Kong Rugby Football Union (HKRFU) Member Clubs and HKRFU stakeholders to ensure their members are given priority for tickets. This policy not only ensures that active and long-term supporters of local rugby enjoy priority access to tickets, but also provides an effective channel and incentive for the continued growth of rugby in Hong Kong.
