Musical virtuosity became a new religion in the beginning of the 18th century and the singer became the new god. Adored and cherished, castratos could be considered as the first « celebrities » ever and their rivalries became naturally part of the process of the star-system. The rivalry between Farinelli and Carestini became legendary, but only a few know that behind them stood the rivalry between two famous composers: Porpora and Händel. During a couple of years, they wrote for their singers some of their most inspired works, they composed beautiful arias to glorify the voice of their singers. It's all these masterpieces that Philippe Jaroussky performs with Venice Baroque Orchestra.
