World hip hop dance champions Pockemon Crew visit Hong Kong for the first time to show their latest production, And action! Originally from Lyon – the city where cinema was born – the dancers take us back to film sets of the 1930s and 40s for an original piece that fuses hip hop, cinema and musical with spectacular results.
「And action!」
Inspired by American movies and musicals from the 1930s and 40s, the latest creation from the company is a tribute to cinema and homage to the dance performed in Broadway theatres at the time, which influenced the first hip hop movement. Full of energy and acrobatics, this vivacious piece with 6 dancers mixes genres and styles for a unique choreographic experience.
Pockemon Crew
It all began in 1996-97 when a group of dancers started training in the streets and under the archways of the National Opera of Lyon. United by a mutual philosophy, the group formed naturally and Pockemon Crew was born in 1999. They participated in their first battle in Grenoble (France) and a series of victories followed, including the prestigious 2003 International Battle of the Year (Hanover, Germany), which brought them worldwide recognition and enabled them to collaborate with the National Opera of Lyon as an associate company.
Their notoriety exploded when they became the first French group to make a serious impression in Korea during the KB BBOY Masters in Seoul (2007), making them the most successful crew in the world. Under the artistic direction of Riyad Fghani, founder of the company, the artists explore other universes with contemporary and classical dancers, circus performers, mime artists and actors so as to develop different working methods and create original pieces.
In addition to the performances, Pockemon Crew dancers will give workshops and host a hip hop dance battle with local groups. More information to come soon.
