For the French May, Thomas Lamadieu will take the opportunity to bring French and Hong Kong cultures together by producing works that mix typical urban landscapes from these two parts of the world. Instead of seeing the sky as a normal empty space, in his series “Skyart”, the French artist Thomas Lamadieu looks up between buildings to see French characters playfully interacting with the urban landscape, using the indefinite and mysterious space of the blue sky as the ground of expression and the canvas for his art. In addition to his exhibition at the Hopewell Centre, Thomas will also run workshops with local schools. "Born in 1985 in Avignon (France), Thomas Lamadieu initially studied topography before moving to history of arts and art practices. His work first created a buzz when it was published on the internet and soon garnered interest within the art world after his prolific output received positive reviews from journalists and art galleries. This spurred him on to travel the world to create new art and put on exhibitions, some of which include the 2011 AAF (Affordable Art Fair) in Brussels where he was nominated « Young Talent » and Arte Creative 2012 as well as the “Carrousel du Louvre” for Tranoi show in 2013, both in Paris. A self-taught illustrator and photographer Thomas Lamadieu defines his art as follows: "My artistic aim is to show a different perception of urban architecture and the everyday environment around us, that we can create with our boundless imagination. I play with shapes to make alive the emptiness of the sky."
