Born in France in 1937, Jean Soyer lives and works just outside of Paris.
Influenced by Abstract Expressionism, his works are soft, bright and filled with sensual energy. Within a dynamic and powerful abstraction he succeeds in expressing an inner universe with multiple echoes through an intense movement. His powerful use of colour is charged with emotion and harmony, and the rich application of paint is achieved using palette knife and spatula.
His paintings draw to mind Chinese calligraphy: one unique brushstroke which represents a meditative immersion of the artist. He was very much inspired by the works of French artist Fabienne Verdier.
His paintings are personal, full of imagination and creativity, music and rhythm, and transport viewers through the dynamic use of colour and movement.
