After the French May exhibitions of the last two years “Perfume, Tales and Legends” and “An ode to the complexion – The Art of skincare and beauty objects from the 18th century to the present”, curator Anne Camilli brings us into the world of Parisian elegance with the story of essential fashion accessories which grace the classical but timeless little black dress.
About the exhibition
The exhibition being held in Hong Kong is a glimpse into the world of fashion from the 20th century onwards with a special focus on that perfect example of Parisian elegance – the little black dress. With a wave of a magic wand, you are suddenly in Paris, the capital of fashion. Come and discover the story behind the little black dress and a selection of fashion accessories in the heart of the enchanting city. Step behind the scenes and look at how these fashion accessories are created. There is nothing too beautiful or too original to grace a little black dress: stockings, slippers, shoes, jewellery, evening bags, hats, gloves – there’s no limit to what you can wear with it and it’s always perfect for every occasion. Perfume is its ultimate accessory – that final touch of elegance that no woman can be without.
The little black dress
Famous for wearing black, it was none other than Coco Chanel who turned the little black dress into a fundamental fashion piece back in the 1920s. The little black dress was soon to be adopted by celebrities, artists, actresses and singers who undoubtedly contributed to its unrivalled success until it became the epitome of seduction for women all over the world. Haute Couture designers and craftsmen working closely together are constantly able to breathe new life into women’s clothing season after season. And a fashion accessory becomes a parure − in the true sense of the word − and has the power to make the simplest of little black dresses look totally sublime. Certain types of expertise have stood the test of time – a distinguished heritage that continues to offer new perspectives both technically and artistically. Elements that come together to contribute to the ever increasing prestige of the luxury industry.
