Hong Kongers who love Japanese sake and food are in for a special treat on May 9-10 with the launch of Sake Room, Hong Kong’s first ever premium Japanese sake and food tasting event featuring 75 types of rare and award winning sake from the International Wine Challenge (most of them are not available at retail). The event will be held at the Hong Kong Maritime Museum in Pier 8, Central, where participants can enjoy free-flow tasting of the world’s finest sakes, paired with off-the menu foods prepared by an impressive lineup of top restaurants Sushi Hiro, Iroha, Sushi Kuu, Mott32, and Doppio Zero. Participants will have the invaluable opportunity to have all their sake-infused questions answered by the event’s guest sake sommelier and “Toji” (a highly respected title for master sake brewers) from 15 famous Gold star winning breweries Joku, Hikami and Choryo, and more. The organizers will also be launching an al fresco Pop-Up Bar until 2am on both nights right upstairs from the Sake Room, featuring Michael Callahan from Singapore. Michael is Asia’s top barman and International Bartender of the Year finalist for the past two years. The pop-up bar The organizers will also be hosting an al fresco Japanese pop-up bar right upstairs from the Sake Room venue until 2am on both nights. The Pop-Up bar will feature Michael Callahan, expert mixologist and head barman of 28 Hong Kong Street in Singapore, one of Asia's top bars. Sake Room participants can simply saunter upstairs and enjoy more Japanese cocktails, whiskies, beer and of course, more sake at the al fresco bar surrounded by panoramic views of the Hong Kong harbor. The pop-up bar will be open to the public as well, but take note, a password will be required for entrance. The password (and hints for those who forget it) will be released on the organizer’s Facebook page and website closer to the event date. - Event dress code: Smart casual. Shorts, sandals and flip-flops not allowed.
