Dé Jìan Táng will present My Fair Ladies, an exhibition showcasing works by Beijing artist Shi Jiangao. The works will be featured at the Asia Contemporary Art Show 2014 at the Conrad Hong Kong from May 15-18 , 2014. The exhibition will continue at Dé Jìan Táng afterwards from May 21 until May 30, 2014.
Shi Jianguo was born in 1964 in Tangshan City, Hebei Province. He graduated in 1991 from the Chinese painting faculty of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. He currently lives in Beijing and is the editor-in-chief at the Art Journal Centre of the China Fine Arts Publishing Group.
Shi Jianguo has won acclaim for his unique style in figure painting. His work is unconventional and daring, but yet is based on his mastery in classical ink paintings technique. The fair ladies in his paintings are modern women in their leisure time, radiating energy of cosmopolitan life. They are carefree and enjoy life to their heart’s content, but at the same time possess elegance and traditional beauty. Unlike the ladies featured in calendars in the 30s whose beauty is manipulated, Shi Jianguo’s fair ladies are unpretentious and confident.
Shi Jianguo often injects twisted and exaggerated components in the expressions and facial parts of his fair ladies, making the paintings more vivid. This has become a very successful feature of his unique style.
