Celtic Connections and the ICOHK are proud to present Celtic Dream, a summer spectacular of music to be held at St. John’s Cathedral, 5 June, 2014. An outstanding cast of singers & musicians to include Celtic Connections Chamber Choir, The International Concert Orchestra of Hong Kong, GSIS Vocalis Chamber Choir, Irish Traditional Musicians Sean Powell & Michael Spangfort, soloists from the ICOHK and Bagpiper Christopher Lee. The programme, led by Hong Kong-based conductors Canice Gleeson and Debra Jones, will highlight hauntingly beautiful orchestral arrangements of contemporary and traditional Irish songs, and a spectacularly diverse repertoire of Classical and Popular favourites. Celtic Dream promises to be a spectacular musical showcase for all the family and Hong Kong community.
Featuring Beautiful Choral and Orchestral arrangements of the music from Enya, Riverdance, Secret Garden, Les Choristesand Celtic Woman with hits such as Wake me Up, Isle of Hope Isle of Tears, Home and the Heartland, Pie Jesu, Vivaldi’s Rain and Ave Maria. The talents of our orchestra will feature in Bach’s Double Concerto and Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto. The very best of contemporary Irish music, classical and popular music will transport you in a Celtic Dream.
Celtic Connections Chamber Choir
Celtic Connections Chamber Choir celebrates its fourth year as the only choir dedicated to performing Celtic & Contemporary music in Asia. Linked to the St. Patrick’s Society of Hong Kong and the Honorary Consul General of Ireland in Hong Kong, its mission is to promote all aspects of performing arts through exciting, innovative and collaborative performances throughout the region. We have performed at a number of high profile events including: Hong Kong Asian Gaelic Games, ‘A Celtic Christmas’ Annual Concert, St. Patrick’s Society Annual Ball, ‘Celtic Connections’ concert at City Hall, Hong Kong and The Forbidden City Concert Hall, Beijing with Davy Spillane and the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong. Performing to packed audiences at St. John's Cathedral; A Celtic Christmas charity concerts and 'Reflection' Celtic Connections Hong Kong continue to support the community with proceeds from our concerts going to local charities. The Choir alongside the International Concert Orchestra of Hong Kong has had an outstanding year with performances at Kowloon Cricket Club, The Arcade Cyberport and St. John’s Cathedral ‘Choir Aid’. The Choir is proud of their continued connections with the Echoes of Erin school of Irish Dance troupe and local and international musicians.
Hong Kong’s newest youth orchestra - The International Concert Orchestra of Hong Kong (ICOHK),received accolades at their debut performance with Celtic Connections at the 'Reflection' concert in June 2012 and continued their success with performances at the Kowloon Cricket Club and Cyberport. Members of Hong Kong's finest youth orchestra are gifted and talented students from International and secondary schools throughout Hong Kong. ICOHK’s mission is to inspire young musicians through the study of challenging and exciting repertoire with performances of the highest standard on national and international platforms.
