Materia medica is a Latin medical term used to describe the collected knowledge about the therapeutic properties of any substance used for healing. This exhibition continues Tai’s heightened awareness of the sterility that surrounds life and death within the context of modern day medical practice. Drawing from her experience of losing her mother to cancer, it is an exploration of the tension between the clinical and the human.
TAI Wun-ting Wendy received her MFA at Rinehart School of Sculpture, Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, MD in 2011, and received her BA in Fine Arts, History of Art at University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA in 2008. TAI was invited to take part in many local and international exhibitions including ‘Liste 17 Art Fair’ in Basel in 2012 and ‘Introspecting Unknown’ Art Museum at the Art Park in Hsinchu Taiwan in 2012 etc., She is a mixed-media artist interested in creating temporal, interactive and performative pieces. Her work ranges from quiet, personal introspection to playful, social engagement. She is currently teaching art and continuing her studio practice in Hong Kong.
