Hong Kong Cultural Centre is going to present a pipe organ concert by Ansgar Wallenhorst at the Concert Hall at 5pm on 17 May, 2014 (Sat). Since 2008, Wallenhorst has been Director of Music at St. Peter and Paul's Church in Ratingen, Germany, and Artistic Director of the Orgelwelten Ratingen, an international organ festival. From 1998 to 2002, he taught organ and improvisation at the Musikhochschule Dortmund. He founded the open organ class, and held classes in interpretation, improvisation and analysis at the Klais organ in the Ruhr University´s Auditorium Maximum in Bochum. His reputation as a distinguished improviser and his successful participation in the 3rdof the 43rd 2000 provided the foundation for his busy career as a performer and guest lecturer throughout Europe and the United States. In this recital, Wallenhorst will play works of Tournemire, Bach, Escaich, Cochereau, Dupré and his own improvisation works. Audiences are invited to spend a relaxing afternoon and enjoy the concert with free tickets.The hand-made pipe organ, by the Austrian manufacturer Rieger Orgelbau, is the most sparkling star in the magnificent Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall. With four manuals, 93 stops and 8 000 pipes, this pipe organ is believed to be the largest mechanically operated instruments of its kind in the Southeast Asia. To promote organ music, Hong Kong Cultural Centre organises free pipe organ concerts on selected Saturday afternoons. Free tickets are distributed at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Enquiries Counter (9am to 9pm daily) from now on. Each patron may get a maximum of 4 tickets on a first-come, first-served basis. Audiences aged 6 and above are welcome.
