The tremendous success of Pink Dot Singapore, held yearly since 2009, has inspired Hong Kong LGBT organisations and individual volunteers to organise the first ever Pink Dot Hong Kong on Sunday 15 June 2014 Tamar Park. The event is co-organised by BigLove Alliance and Pink Alliance, and proudly supported by The Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong.
Pink Dot Hong Kong 2014 themed - We are Family: The Freedom to Love - is a casual non-political outdoor event for families, friends, and colleagues of LGBT to express support for inclusiveness, diversity and love equality. This support will be symbolised by a forming human Pink Dot during the day and at night.
“Hong Kong already hosts a couple of well-known and well-attended public LGBT events but we felt that the city still needed one that was more inclusive”, says Brian Leung, Chief Campaigner of BigLove Alliance and well-known veteran broadcaster and one of the two conveners of the project. “The Pink Dot’s concept is especially designed to strongly include not only all members of the local LGBT community but also their families and straight allies.”
John Erni, the Pink Dot Hong Kong co-convener, adds: “We hope it to be a big day of celebration in an energetic and inviting way for the whole community, anyone who supports the freedom just to love.
The event will be held in the afternoon of Sunday 15 June on the spacious green lawns of Tamar Park with a broad view of the picturesque Victoria Harbour. For highimpact and to symbolise love, participants will be invited to wear pink.
The program will include an outdoor picnic and fair, as well as a free closing concert featuring a league of well-known Hong Kong performers including Denise Ho and Anthony Wong. The highlights of Hong Kong first ever Pink Dot will be the formation of a human pink dot during the day and with pink lights at night.
The event will be promoted by a series of videos featuring local personalities in the role of Pink Dot ambassadors.
