Described as “classic rock with a contemporary edge, and maybe a hint of J-Rock”. Founding members lead singer Wolf Red and guitarist Terrish took on the name Bamboo Star (phonetically pronounced ‘Jook Sing’ in Cantonese) which refers to Chinese people who have Western backgrounds. As a four-man band, the powerful, high-pitched and layered vocal harmonies, combined with blistering, blues-driven guitar solos are reminiscent of the classic rock style that we know and love, but Bamboo Star brings it forward with a modern sound and twist. Attracting the attention of various visual artists to produce four original music videos, the band also have quite a following from the Hong Kong live music scene. Their latest performance was up against the Hong Kong skyline at the new Central Harbourfront, at The Underground FANZONE Festival. Les Gromechkos Founded in 2008, the six-piece band Les Gromechkos (it’s pronounced Gro-Mesh-Ko by the way!) have been exploring all the hidden sides of Hong Kong to tell their local stories and lives, through a unique blend of ska, gipsy-punk and French rock. Their eye-catching style combined with an inexhaustible energy makes every concert a surprise that brings you to a big dance party and leaves you skanking along with their catchy tunes! Mr Rocket Head Mr. Rocket Head is a Hong Kong band formed in 2012, with Kelvin on Vocals, Hei on Guitar, Jon on Bass and Raven on Drums. Their music is a mixture of Rock, Pop and Funk, with easy listening melody lines and well constructed Cantonese lyrics. These 4 big boys would like to act as a rocket head, flying up high; spreading their music and sharing the beauty of Cantonese around the world. Turing Apples Turing Apples is the product of 5 ne’er-do-well childhoods in Hong Kong and a shared passion for cheap drinks, pseudo science and sweet, sweet noise. Unwilling to adopt a sound Turing Apples is 5 people who don’t necessarily agree on everything but are willing to try anything. Having been described as “indie rock” or “dirty pop”, Nicola (vox/melodica/ukelele), Ali (guitar/vox), Hans (guitar/ukulele), Rafe (bass/noise) and Latif (all things percussive) like to think of it as “nerd rock”….music that Alan Turing almost certainly would have approved of. The band has played together for about 2 years and have just released a five-song EP which can be purchased via bandcamp.
