Description
Opera Hong Kong takes the greatest pleasure in presenting the musical Fiddler on the Roof Jr., the finale show performed by the young participants of Opera Hong Kong Summer School 2014, the coming on 23 and 24 August, 3:00pm, at the Theatre, Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre. Fiddler on the Roof Jr. will be performed by over 80 young singers of Opera Hong Kong Summer School 2014. The youngsters are aged between 5 and 18 and have attended a 3-week intensive vocal training course with acting provided by Opera Hong Kong Summer School. Previous successful performances of Opera Hong Kong Summer School include The Magic Flute, The Pirates of Penzance, Aladdin and The Music Man, Jr. Fiddler on the Roof is extremely popular all over the world and is a well-suited choice for children’s productions with its universal theme of hope, love in the family and acceptance, and its interwoven inclusion of music, dance, poignancy and humour. It was the first Broadway show to play for more than 3,000 performances. Moreover, it has brought about numerous revivals and a film adaption, enjoyed by generations after generations. Felix Suen and Kwok Tsz Wan are the music director and director of this upcoming Fiddler on the Roof Jr. presentation respectively. The two performances will feature an array of beloved songs including Sunrise, Sunset, If I Were Rich Man and Matchmaker. Set in Tsarist Russia in 1905, Fiddler on the Roof tells the story of Tevye, a father of five daughters who tries to uphold traditions in an ever-changing world. The story parallels many of the challenges faced by our society today and it inspires young people to think about how they should deal with the issues of root, community, tradition, tolerance and faith. Organized by Opera Hong Kong every year, Opera Hong Kong Summer School offers youngsters an opportunity to perform a lively repertoire full of musical worth and humour. The participants can have their creativity and observation, expression, analytical and appreciation skills enhanced. Opera Hong Kong would like to extend our gratitude to Mr. Eric Winkler who has financially supported 10 youngsters in need to join the summer school through the Ryder Industries Scholarship. Heartfelt thanks to our Title Sponsor and Honourary Patron, K. Wah International Holdings Limited, and our Principal Patron Prince Jewellery and Watch Company.
