Description
L'Étranger To stay or to make a move Following the success of his solo work To Stay or To Make a Move in the UK, France, Romania and Hong Kong, Victor Fung's latest production L'Étranger is a contemporary dance work departing from Albert Camus's novel which explores the notion of time as a human experience. At times elaborated and suspended while stranded and disjointed at others, the protagonists finds themselves caught in fleeting moments of presence and existence. Featuring a cast of some of the finest dance artists in Hong Kong together with an original score by Polish composer Sabio Janiak and lighting design by Lee Chi Wai, L'Étranger brings a unique cinematic experience to the live stage. Choreography: Victor Fung Performance: Hugh Cho, Lam Po, Max Lee, Kenny Leung, Justyne Li Sze Yeung Music: Sabio Janiak Lighting Design: Lee Chi Wai Victor Fung Victor Fung graduated from Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, University of California Santa Barbara, and completed his MA in Choreography (Merit) at London Contemporary Dance School. As a choreographer, Victor has received funding and commissions from Arts Council England, Chisenhale Dance Space (London), Hong Kong Arts Development Council, City Contemporary Dance Company (Hong Kong), and Junior Dance Company (Italy) amongst others. Victor received the Award for Young Arts at this year's Hong Kong Arts Development Award for his international achievements in dance. His production Not Enough (Beyond Reason) was shortlisted as one of the three 'Outstanding Independent Dance' for the 2012 Hong Kong Dance Award. His work Hip was featured at the Guangdong Modern Dance Festival while Degrees of Freedom was featured at the Hong Kong Dance Festival. His critically acclaimed work Fighter, choreographed for City Contemporary Dance Company, debuted in Hong Kong in 2012 and has since toured China as part of the company's repertoire. Victor was selected to represent the UK in SPAZIO 2013-14, a European network for dance creation, and was joined by five other choreographers in residencies across Europe including ICK (The Netherlands), CSC DanceHouse (Italy), Croatian Institute for Movement and Dance and Arts Stations Foundation (Poland). Last year, he was also granted a residency at WASP Bucharest through Jardin d'Europe and 4Culture. Recent performance credits include Aida at Royal Albert Hall, Tino Seghal's These Association at Tate Modern and Hollywood production 47 Ronin featuring Keanu Reeves.
