1997年，山雨欲來。沒有人知道這種沒有審查、不受電檢規範的表演形式是否即將壽終正寢，子華計劃橫跨兩個時間、空間演出新一輯的棟篤笑。但由於所有場地都已預留作回歸慶典之用，於是他只有提前九七年四月“秋前算賬” ，當中他說了很多大家想講，仍未講可能以後不能講的東西。四月十三日，子華完成最後一場演出，他擔心這可能是最後的一個棟篤笑。 ——摘自《最黃子華的黃子華》 ，作者：林祖輝，原載於1999年6月《號外》City Magazine
