The fire dragon dance in Pok Fu Lam Village has a history spanning more than 100 years and is the key event of the village. On the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the public will be able to join in the event by putting incense sticks into the dragon body to pray for good health and fortune. At the same time, they can appreciate the beauty and intricacy of the fire dragons up close and enjoy their graceful dance with the dazzling lights of ten thousand incense sticks.
On that night, the fire dragons will parade around Aberdeen and Pok Fu Lam Village in the form of “Seven Stars Accompanying the Moon”. Five small fire dragons will parade around Aberdeen first where they will be accompanied by the traditional lantern teams making up of children and young people, before moving on to Aberdeen Promenade. The remaining two smaller fire dragons will dance around Pok Fu Lam Village, paying homage at the Earth God altar and the Li Ling Divine pagoda to pray for good fortune and health.
At the same time, the large fire dragon dancing at the entrance of the village and bristling with burning incense sticks, will parade along Pok Fu Lam Road, and then join the two smaller fire dragons. After adding more incense sticks, the three fire dragons will go to Wah Fu Estate to join with the other five fire dragons. Finally, all eight fire dragons will dance twice in circles before going to Waterfall Bay Park together, where they will plunge into the sea to symbolise the dragons’ return to the sea.
