Amnesty International Hong Kong organize the 4th Human Rights Documentary Film Festival. 13 documentary films from all around the world are selected according to 4 main themes, Freedom of Speech, My Body My Rights, Abolition of Death Sentence and STOP Torture. 3 directors and/or main case from Taiwan, Australia and Russia will come to Hong Kong to interact with the audiences. The opening film is Ai Weiwei’s appeal (Ai Weiwei’s appeal ¥15,220,910.50) which is the latest film by the famous Chinese Artist, Ai Weiwei. Three sessions would be shown in Broadway Cinematheque. Through the authentic images in the documentary films, we hope to share touching stories about defending human rights from different parts of the world to Hong Kong audiences.
Opening Film: Ai Weiwei’s appeal¥15,220,910.50
Opening film (Ai Weiwei’s appeal ¥15,220,910.50) will be shown in Broadway Cinematheque on 3 October. The film is the first-person description of Ai Weiwei about his coping of tax penalties under monitoring, after released from illegal detainment for 81 days. State of administration of Taxation charged an enormous sum of RMB 15.22 million tax penalties. Online friends donated RMB 9 million within 10 days to support him. Ai Weiwei protest in an artistic and absurd way to reveal the characteristic of Chinese legal system.
Post-screening discussion guests
Another focus of this Film Festival is 3 directors or actors will interact with audiences during post-screening discussion. “Scarlet Road” describe the interaction between Australian sex worker, Rachel Wotton and 4 clients with disability. The depth, humor and passion in this documentary will transform the way you see sex workers and people with disabilities forever. Rachel will come to Hong Kong at the beginning of October to interact with audiences.
