While we all live under one sky, life is vastly different for those born in unimaginably impoverished parts of the Third World. Here, hopelessly out-of-date medical facilities, inadequate hygiene and grinding poverty mean many are condemned to go blind solely due to a lack of education or treatment delays. Ultimately, these poor souls not only lose their sight, but also their dignity, livelihood and their family's future.
Orbis has now been fighting for needlessly blind people's basic right to sight for over three decades. To mark World Sight Day(WSD)2014 on Thursday October 9, we want to remind Hongkongers of all walks of life of the need to protect their sight, and to call on everyone to support our 2014 Orbis Pin campaign! So take the first steps on a life changing journey by simply opening your eyes and giving needy folks the chance to share the beauty you can see!
Please bring light and hope to the blind by donating to our 11th World Sight Day campaign! To enable you to fully experience the wonder of sight, we've assembled a series of eye-popping visual clips that are certain to open your eyes! Simply witness and share the footage with friends via the QR code on this year's distinctive eye-shaped Orbis WSD badge!
To receive one of this year's four unique badges*, simply donate at least HK$100. Alternatively, receive a complete set of all four badges and a fifth limited-edition design when you donate HK $1,000 or more.
*Design of badges sent will be randomly chosen.
World Sight Day (WSD) is an annual day of awareness held on the second Thursday of October, to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment. World Sight Day 2014 is on 9 October 2014.
2014 is the first year of the WHO Global Action Plan and IAPB encourages our members and partners to continue with our rolling theme: Universal Eye Health
This year, the 'Call to Action' for World Sight Day is: No more Avoidable Blindness
WSD is co-ordinated by IAPB under the VISION 2020 Global Initiative. The theme, and certain core materials are generated by IAPB. All events are organised independently by members and supporter organisations.
