美國在2013年成為全球第五處決人數最多的國家。法籍導演專程訪美，透過四位主角道出死刑的荒謬。一名老祖母與家人深夜趕到鹽湖城郊區，為的是觀看殺死其夫的兇手被行刑。在俄克拉荷馬州，一名前死囚坐了22年冤獄，淡然說出在死囚牢內的光怪陸離。行刑官、牧師、死囚之母、廢除死刑運動人士、律師穿插過場，反映死刑背後的傷痛、暴力與不公義。
