Description
Electriq is here. The new electronic music series – presented by the people behind Clockenflap, Hong Kong’s biggest annual music festival, and PUSH, the city’s leading dance music promoters – aims to bring Hong Kong electronic music followers the events we think they deserve. And after months of brainstorming, reconnaissance missions and covert operations, it all starts on October 4 at PMQ in Central, when Electriq will spark wires and lift-off at a launch event headlined by ORBITAL co-founder PHIL HARTNOLL. Electriq are launching with the Orbital legend because while we have a serious love of the sounds moving contemporary dance floors (as you’ll see at our upcoming events), we also understand exactly where it all came from. And in many ways, much of what we aim to do comes from Orbital. Orbital were founded in 1988 by the brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll, and they took their name from Greater London’s orbital motorway, the M25, which became a nexus of the UK’s embryonic rave scene in the early days of acid house. Early tracks such as Chime (1989) and Halycon (1992) were massive in the acid-house clubs and also on the charts, but it was their 1994 performance at Glastonbury before 40,000 people that really started a revolution – and the effects of this revolution continue to reverberate until today. By bringing together this massive crowd of sceptical indie fans without using a single guitar, Orbital changed the face of music festivals forever. The following year at Glastonbury, and for every year since, there has been a dedicated dance tent – and the brothers went on to appear at the festival another half-dozen times on increasingly bigger stages before increasingly bigger crowds. On October 4, Phil Hartnoll – one half of this incredibly influential outfit – will help launch Electriq at an event that will also serve as a lead-up to the Clockenflap festival from November 28-30. Tickets are strictly limited and are now on sale through Ticketflap.
