Hosted by Art Futures Group, with the theme of My Kingdom of Fairytales, the artist, known for his paintings and sculptures of Chinese iconography will showcase some of the works that have made him an icon, and have made his sculptures and paintings collectible items.
Shen has recently been highlighted by The New York Times as well as on the cover of Asian Art News magazine, launching his works to a wider audience. Sought after by high-society, his works have been coveted by stars such as Zhang Ziyi of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Born in Nanjing in 1965, Shen Jingdong spent nearly 20 years in the military before becoming an artist. The influence of his prior military life is clear in his current artistic works, which heavily feature soldiers and war-like themes, along with icons of Chinese life, which play a significant role in his impressions. The artwork often interprets facets of Chinese lifestyle with extremely vivid, expressive and evocative colours with bright hues of red, blue, green and yellow.
His artistic impressions are popular in East Asia as well as around the world, with prior exhibitions; both group and solo, held in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing and New York. Shen also featured in a recent solo exhibition Hidden Meanings, Colour Explosion 2014 at Today’s Art Museum located in Beijing. He has also had five other solo exhibitions since 2006, and thus has been featured on many major publications, such as front cover of Asian Art News magazine.
Demonstrating his active lifestyle in art exchange and development, Shen previously visited Spain and Belgium in 2009 & 2011 respectively. He is popular amongst art collectors internationally, and is also heavily involved in Charity events.
