Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation (J.C.DISI) organizes 10 Day Fest on October 10-19, 2014. One of the festival highlight events - Hong Kong Mini Maker Faire (Maker Faire) will be held on 18 – 19th October, 2014. Makers’ Booths, Presentation and Workshops, Humanoid Robot Competition and MakerJam for Social Good 2014 - all those 3 events at Maker Faire will gather tech enthusiasts, craftsmen, hobbyists, science buffs, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors of all age groups to the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) in order to invent, design, create, or build objects or information systems with the goal of learning, teaching, making a difference, or inspiring others. 10 Day Fest have offered this platform for Hong Kong makers to exhibit their innovative projects, share their knowledge with each other and promote the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) culture. Followings are the details of Hong Kong Mini Maker Fare – (1) Makers’ Booths, Presentation and Workshops, (2) RBL Hong Kong Region – Humanoid Robot Competition, and (3) MakerJam for Social Good 2014. Makers’ Booths, Presentation and Workshops (October 18-19) Makers’ Booths will be held in V1310 Jockey Club Innovation Tower at PolyU. Hong Kong Makers from various work sectors will join and show their works or project, such as innovative hardware widgets and delicate handcrafts. Handmade clothes, accessories, decorations, figures, robots and mechanic devices will be presented there too. To further develop the concept of Do-It-Yourself (DIY), 20 workshops will be launched for the public to join, there various contents or aspects as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Photography, Lego Education, Soap making, Bender 3D and Coding for kids will be covered. RBL Hong Kong Region – Humanoid Robot Competition (October 19) Remotely controlled humanoid robots' fight in a box ring - is another eye catchy event at 10 Day Fest. The robots are usually built with RC Servos as actuators and mounted together with sheet metal shapes. The most common frame material is aluminum. A small onboard micro controller or equivalent is used to control the robots movements. It is aim to develop the state of art of robot building and control to kids, students and public to see how these fantastic robots will be. For more details about to join and support the competition, please visit: http://rblhk.wordpress.com/ MakerJam for Social Good 2014 MakerJam for Social Good 2014 contain two parts – toys for motion-impaired children and 3D printed hand prosthetics. With the support of the Hong Kong Red Cross John F. Kennedy Centre (HKRC-JFKC), multidisciplinary makers will collaborate to create toys for two students in wheelchairs with motion impairments and limited control over movements of their arms and fingers. Makers and designers will also have 48 hours to access and create hand prosthetics to meet the needs of 3 recipients. Dogs Trainer born without left palm, retired person who lost three fingers in a car accident, and dog, born without right leg. Respectively, in MakerJam a wearable dog feeder for the training, finger replacement and left leg support for dog walking are promised to improve their life quality. Event aims to experience creating custom prosthetics for the people in need, work with 3D printers, software, and serve better in future. All events are open to public.
