His pure, shimmering works create a uniquely spiritual sound-world. Making its Hong Kong debut, Grammy award-winning Theatre of Voices, led by Founder/Artistic Director Paul Hillier, performs a programme of the composer’s most beautiful choral music.From his earliest vocal composition, Solfeggio, to gems from his tintinnabuli years, Pärt’s crystalline sound could have no finer interpreter than this group who have, according to Gramophone magazine, “lived and breathed Pärt’s music for over two decades”. The other concert features music from both 17th and 21st centuries, composed to illustrate three famous stories about family and sacrifice. Carissimi’s oratorios portray the trials of Abraham and Isaac; and Jephthah and the daughter he must offer to God. Also in the programme is the little match girl passion commissioned by Theatre of Voices and composed by American David Lang, who won the Pulitzer Prize in 2008 for his adaptation of this Hans Christian Andersen’s tale.
