Cleverly manipulating pen and ink sketches in front of a projector and onto a big screen alongside the live music, Nicholas Rawling and his group of artist-puppeteers and musicians portray Odysseus’ epic journey to get back to his family after the Trojan Wars. Homer’s Odyssey is the second oldest, surviving work of Western literature, and one of the most gripping action tales ever written. Mixing the tradition of storytelling with hand-crafted technology and captivating live score from exceptional musicians, the Paper Cinema has created a beautifully imaginative, convincing and completely original production - without actors, set or spoken script! THE STORY Nine years after the end of the Trojan War, the King, Odysseus, has still not returned home. He encounters the one-eyed monster Cyclops, the underworld of Hades, a boar hunt, a violent storm at sea, and much more. In his absence, his house has been besieged by wolf-like suitors who are after his crown, lands and faithful wife, Penelope. Away for 20 years, rumours of his death around. When will he be home? Will Penelope be able to keep the wolves at bay? These answers are in the hands of Gods. With the help of a local tutor, students will let their imagination run wild while creating their own puppet short pieces.
