Karate and karaoke; sake and Sapporo – for the first time, Happy Valley Racecourse is giving itself a fully Japanese makeover. In conjunction with the JRA Cup, Happy Wednesday fans in attendance on November 19 and 26 will be treated to a traditional Japanese festival, complete with games, on-course decorations, traditional performances and a variety of delicious Japanese food and cocktails! Don’t miss what promises to be two fun-filled weeks, with a thoroughly festive atmosphere and stellar on-track action!
Entertainment - Land of the Rising Fun
There’s never a dull moment at Happy Wednesday, and with colorful performances and a healthy sampling of Japanese cultural fun available for you and your friends, this two weeks promise to be no different!
- Photo booth – see how you look in a yukata, and take a souvenir snap!
- Mochitsuki trial – just as they’ve done at festivals in Japan for hundreds of years, try your hand at pounding Japanese rice cakes.
- Japanese Drum Dance
- Upbeat traditional Japanese dance
Food & Drinks - Nibble a Taste of Nippon
Unlock the secrets of Japanese cooking with HK Japanese Club Head Chef Fukata-san! The talented culinary master will lend recipes from his exclusive, members-only restaurant to the trackside menu at Happy Valley Racecourse, to give all attendees a top-notch taste of the best Japanese cuisine has to offer! Japanese-style sake/whisky-based cocktails will also be on sale exclusively throughout the festival.
Games - Take A Selfie to Take to the Skies
This month, Happy Wednesday is the only place where a single selfie can be your ticket to Tokyo! We’re challenging all racegoers to turn Japanese, by simply snapping a pic of your friends in traditional garb or in front of our on-site decorations, uploading it to Facebook or Instagram, and tagging it #HWParty. Grab that geisha gear and strike a pose – the best fan photo from each week’s event will win a pair of ANA round-trip flights to Tokyo! Stay-tuned to our Happy Wednesday Facebook page for more details on the grand prize and contest rules!
