A colourful ship floats above Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbor, popular movie characters spilling out from its film spool cargo as they arrive in the city for the festival. Young and talented illustrator Jack LEE Ka Wa has created this fantasy art to represent the 39th HK International Film Festival. Film makers, cinema buffs and visitors to Hong Kong continue to be inspired by Asia’s most established and major international film festival. The festival is honored to have Mr. Louis KOO Tin-Lok as an ambassador for this annual spectacle of movies. Louis is one of Asia’s most popular movie icons, and has recently starred in films such as Don’t Go Breaking My Heart 2, Overheard 3, Aberdeen, and Out of Inferno. The 39th Hong Kong International Film Festival Filmmaker in Focus: Ms. Sylvia Chang Sylvia Chang, the internationally recognized director, producer and actress, is the “Filmmaker in Focus” of the 39th Hong Kong International Film Festival (23 March to 6 April, 2015). In celebrating her achievements, the Hong Kong International Film Festival will screen 13 of Chang’s films, including the world premiere of her latest work,Murmur of the Hearts (2015). Chang will attend the “Face to Face” seminar on 5 April at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, sharing her insights on film, art and life. Complete Retrospective of Roy Andersson at 39th HKIFF Admired throughout the world, Swedish master filmmaker Roy Andersson is known for his distinct style that is characterized by long takes, absurdist comedy and stiff caricaturing of Swedish culture. The 39th HKIFF will showcase his complete retrospective, including A PIGEON SAT ON A BRANCH REFLECTING ON EXISTENCE, his Golden Lion Best Film winner at the Venice Film Festival last year, with his two short films and some of his best and highly stylized commercials. BEAUTIFUL 2015 The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) produces the omnibus BEAUTIFUL 2015, which will premiere at the 39th HKIFF. Naruse Mikio, 110th Anniversary The 39th Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) will celebrate the life and work of the late great Japanese filmmaker Naruse Mikio by screening his most critically acclaimed films. Naruse’s work has been rarely seen in Hong Kong, and the festival will highlight 4 films: Repast(1951), Floating Clouds (1955), Daughters, Wives and a Mother (1960), and Scattered Clouds (1967), in a newly digitized version. Wives and a Mother, and Scattered Clouds will be shown in widescreen and color.
