少shao - youth, few in number, lack 年nian - age, year 遊yau – travel, wander Shao Nian Yau – is it “aimless wandering of the young” or “determined expedition of the youthful aged”? A dancer’s life is short. Even shorter is the life of a classic Chinese dance in Hong Kong. What so unique and exquisite is quickly dismissed as obsolete. Well past his youth, Yuri Ng has no attempt to immortalise. He merely wants to demystify the stereotypes of the traditional. Looking forward, Ng spearheads three generations in search of new possibilities, where old works embodied in the young speak to contemporary audience.
