Hong Kong Arts Centre will present 2014 flagship exhibition titled “Unseen Existence: Dialogues with the Environment in Contemporary Art”. Working with renowned Taiwanese curator Rudy Tseng, the show will be divided into subsidiary themes: “Energy as Inspiration” where artists directly incorporate modes, manifestations or apparati of energy into their compositions, “Traces of Ruins” where artists visually capture the degradation of our earth and the aftermath of its undue exploitation, “Caring for the Environment” where artists employ various methods and media to express their care and concern for the sustainability or restoration of our land, and at last “New Findings”, which will be a selection of artworks that harbour a more innovative connection to our ecological ruminations and might even inspire new ways of thinking about the planet in which we live. Guest curator Rudy Tseng Featured Artists Nadim Abbas, Allora & Calzadilla, Ang Song Ming, Araki Nobuyoshi, Masaya Chiba, Jiang Zhi, Maya Kramer, Boris Mikhailov, Yuko Mohri, Sutthirat Supaparinya, Wang Fu-jui and Yao Jui-chung Special Event Silent Walk by Ang Song Ming Silent Walk is a group exercise in which participants each take five minutes to lead the group, choosing to walk in any direction he or she chooses. During the walk, participants switch off their mobile devices, keep silent and listen to the sounds of their immediate environment. The walk finishes when the last person in the group has taken his or her turn to lead the group. Since its debut earlier this year at Institute of Contemporary Arts (Singapore), Silent Walk has been presented at Museum of Contemporary Art (Sydney), Lehrter Siebzehn (Berlin), and Le6b (Paris). It charms audiences with its simple invitation to open the ears. By asking us to pay attention to the sights and sounds around us, a casual activity can well be turned into a magical experience.
