Since the 1st Ocean Park Conservation Day in 1995, OPCFHK has been promoting wildlife conservation to the public on the second Saturday of each January. It will be the 20th Ocean Park Conservation Day in 2015, through interesting booth games, exhibitions and workshops, we will show you our spectacular achievements in Asian wildlife conservation. Three threatened species we helped from the sea, in the air, and on the land will also be introduced. Let’s enjoy playing and learning, while acting proactively to protect our precious wildlife. ** Ocean Park will donate the entire admission revenue to OPCFHK on Conservation Day to support our conservation efforts on Chinese white dolphins, seahorses, horseshoe crabs, and many other species across Asia. Theme: 20 Years of Achievements in Asian Wildlife Conservation Activities: Education & Game Booths We developed illustrated panels and games which suits everyone to promote wildlife conservation, with a focus on the giant panda, China’s National Treasure, the Chinese white dolphin, the mascot of Hong Kong, and the legendary seabird, the Chinese crested tern. Animal-themed face and body painting as well as Chinese white dolphin, seahorse and horseshoe crab handicrafts provide extra fun. All these activities help to ensure that your day is filled with fun learning about marine conservation! Meeting the Living Fossil The horseshoe crab is precious and has a distinctive appearance. It has existed for 475 million years, about 230 million years before the appearance of dinosaurs on Earth. We will exhibit different horseshoe crab fossils in Ocean Park, you can also see the juveniles up-close. Secondary school students who joined the “Juvenile Horseshoe Crab Rearing Programme” will explain horseshoe crab’s biolody, conservation status and share with you their joyful moments with the horseshoe crabs. "Be a Conservationist" Workshop We will take you to the world of researchers and conservationists and let you experience their front-line field work. You will be taught some research methods and skills of studying seahorse and other wild animals. Through amazing videos and games, you will be able to go through the breath-taking journeys of the “University Students Sponsorship Programme” participants in the past 10 years, hence to learn more about our help to the threatened wildlife in Asia. "Green Potting DIY" Workshop Do you want to green your home or office? During Conservation Day, by joining the “Friends of the Foundation” at the discounted celebration rate of $200 (Regular Membership) or $80 (Junior Membership), you will be entitled to join the “Green Potting DIY” Workshop for free! We will make use of recycled glass bottles, soil and decorations. Take your unique potting home and enjoy green potting together!
