The concert consists of music by composers: Chopin, Scriabin, Mompou, Ravel and Messiaen that made Paris their homes at one point or another in their lives. Poetry has an effect on each of these great masters. Inspired by poetry, the Ballade genre for piano was invented by Chopin like never before; Scriabin (Poèmes) and Mompou's (Palmier d'étoiles, Jeune filles au jardin) music evoked poetry; Ravel wrote Gaspard de la nuit depicting the fantastical after reading Bertrand's poems and Messiaen was, in his own way, inspired by the poetry of nature, that of birdsong. Mary Wu, the Hong Kong based well-known international pianist, will share those “French connections” works with us.
