Le Chat Noir was one of the first avant-garde cabarets to open its doors in the Montmartre neighborhood of Paris in 1881 – it was the first place where the aristocracy and people from all social classes in common search of having a good time and listening to music. Erik Satie, Claude Debussy, and some other musicians, were actively performing at Le Chat Noir. After the cabaret was closed in 1897, the spirit of joie de vivre continued, music written in salon style was still on trend. In this concert, voice and piano music in salon style will be presented by Florence Cheng and Cynthia Chan, featuring Mélodies of Satie and Debussy, and Messiaen’s piano works.
