Born in Glasgow and growing up in London, Howard Bernstein, is definitely the figurehead for dance / electronic / pop music in the 90’s. Renowned resident DJ in London nightclub Fabric, boss of his own music label Pussyfoot, huge fan of 70’s music such as John McLaughlin, Santana and Gong, and also a fanatic vinyl record collector. Perhaps Howie B is most famous for producing and remixing for Soul to Soul, Björk, Tricky, Everything but the Girl, Goldie, Brian Eno, Sinead O'Connor, New Order , Steve Reich, Placebo and many other giants. In 1997, he reached new career height being the executive producer of U2’s Pop and as well the record breaking concert tour Pop Mart. Meanwhile, Howie completed a soundtrack for German film The End of Violence directed by Wim Wenders. Recently he has been collaborating with Chinese artists such as Cui Jian, Yufeimen aka The Nand. In 2012, he composed for director Li Yu’s Blockbuster Double Xposure, including the theme song "When I think of it" performed by popular singers of The Voice of China.
Howie B has released a handful of solo albums. Among them Music For Babies and Turn The Dark Off are not only his most familiar works, but also recognized as defining Trip Hop / Breakbeat albums, crowning Howie along with DJ Shadow, U.N.K.L.E and Coldcut as the electronic masters. In addition, Skylab, a duo he formed with Toshio Nakanishi (of Japanese Hip Hip group Major Force), is praised as the pioneer of Trip Hop music. More recently, he continues his colourful music journey with the new band Beautiful. In fact, he loves studio works as much as playing at parties around the world. His DJ sound is as diverse as his identities: with Breakbeat as the backbone, blending 2-Step, Reggae, Hip Hop, Electro, and even Rock, we can expect a fulfilling experience with his unique musical senses.
