The process of gentrification takes place in many cities around the world. New shops and businesses are moving into old neighbourhoods like Tai Ping Shan, bringing new vibes to the area while traditional shops continue to fulfil their function, serving local residents. How do they compliment each other and do they co-existing in harmony? Do these changes lead to conflicts? Are there new possibilities for dialogue and collaboration between these businesses?
Three guided tours will be available and participants will have a chance to listen to the stories and history of the Tai Ping Shan community directly from the residents and shop owners; participants will also be encouraged to engage with the community in different ways, including interactive games and movement expressions, which are aimed at strengthening the sense of localness of the neighbourhood and participants from the outer areas.

Tai Ping Shan Community Storytelling is a project born from the “New Works Forum: Social Acupuncture in the Tai Ping Shan Area”, that was initiated and presented by the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority in August 2014. We hope, through the collection of these stories, all contributors, be they residents or shop owners of Tai Ping Shan will be able to re-examine and rediscover the history and the culture of their local community.
