[WEST BROTHER MINE VISIT!] The very first mine visit co-organized by ProjecTerrae and the AusIMM Hong Kong Branch Student Chapter!! This time, the destination of the mine visit is set on the West Brother, a now deserted island situated at the North of Lantau Island, midway between the Chek Lap Kok and Tuen Mun. About half a decade ago, a graphite mine was operating on the island, reaching a depth of 90m below sea level at 1964. Later during early 1990s, the island was leveled because of the construction of Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok. The trip will surely reward you with knowledge on mineralogy of the graphite mine, as well as the sceneries of old relics and the island. To spice things up, there are also chances of encountering the rare Chinese White Dolphin on the boat trip back!
