Co-presented by the West Kowloon Cultural District and the British Council, the upcoming New Works Forum: Dance Dialogue with Wayne McGregor provides the face-to-face opportunity of artistic exchange with the world renowned choreographer Wayne McGregor.
McGregor is the Artistic Director of Company Wayne McGregor, Resident Company at Sadler's Wells, London, and Resident Choreographer of The Royal Ballet. He is also one of the most sought after choreographers internationally having created new works for Paris Opera Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet and New York City Ballet, and his works are in the repertoire of many of the world's leading ballet companies including the Bolshoi Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, and National Ballet of Canada.
A residency for local dance companies, dance instructors and professional dance students will begin with four days of intensive creative learning sessions based on the Mind and Movement methodologies created by Studio Wayne McGregor. On 17 October, in a free public forum, McGregor will share some of the interdisciplinary collaborative research he conducted with cognitive scientists: how this research contributes to choreographic creativity in making dance, in dance education and in understanding bodies. As an advocate for dance, he will also discuss his interest in the training of future dancers. Professional dancers of the Hong Kong Dance Company will also demonstrate McGregor’s choreographic process, based on what they have developed in the previous few days.
