Human Rights Education, empower children, empower the world! Human Rights Documentary Film Festival was first organised by Amnesty International Hong Kong in 2011. Since then, documentaries across the world were brought to Hong Kong, putting various human rights issues under spotlight. The theme of the 5th Human Rights Documentary Film Festival is Human Rights Education. According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: “Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.” Malala in Malala: A Girl from Paradise as Opening Film strives for the right to education of children; Song of The Reed as Closing Film documents 4 “comfort women” survivors ‘s songs of bravery; This Is My Land reveals how the Palestinian and Israeli education systems teach the history of these two heritages in the heart of hatred. Four short films are featured for young audiences to learn about respect and care through creativity. Other remarkable works include the exploration of reproductive rights and torture. Although human rights violations are everywhere, don’t be discouraged. Everyday Rebellion teaches us not to give up through introducing hundreds of non-violence protests to encourage you continue to insist on striving for human rights and justice.
