Description
Opera Hong Kong proudly presents Broadway Extravaganza, a sumptuous feast of Broadway memorable tunes performed by four young New York singers together with Fujian Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Scott A Terrell at Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall on 25-26 March (Fri-Sat), 2016 at 7:30pm. The eclectic mix of Broadway classics come from 7 musicals. They include showstoppers such as The Music of the Night and Think of Me from The Phantom of the Opera; Stars and Bring Him Home from Les Misérables; Maria and Tonight from West Side Story; If I loved you and Soliloquy from Carousel; Shall We Dance and Hello Young Lovers from The King and I, Some Enchanted Evening and There’s Nothing Like a Dame from South Pacific and much more. Not only will the solos and ensembles delight the audience by the passionate singers, the songs will also conjure up the sceneries of the beautiful stories of the musicals. The four young singers have received accolades and rave reviews from critics and audiences in both musical and opera worlds. Soprano Katie Dixon received the Orange County Cappies Award and Macy Award for Christine in The Phantom of the Opera, as well as the Musical Theatre West Footlighters Grant for Éponine in Les Misérables. Soprano Meredith Lustig was a featured soloist at New York’s Town Hall Theatre where she was named one of their 2010 Broadway Rising Stars. Tenor Jonathan Blalock’s performance was highly praised by The New Yorker and Wall Street Journal, and he has sung numerous major roles including the title role in Candide with Emerald City Opera. Baritone Wes Mason is a “gifted and fiercely committed young baritone…whose voice is spacious and reverberant” (Opera News), whose notable performances include Billy Bigelow in Carousel with Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre. Conductor Scott A. Terrell was highly acclaimed for the two-week Bernstein Festival with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, featuring On the Town, West Side Story and Candide. He is currently the Music Director of the Lexington Philharmonic and served as Resident Conductor of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra previously. He was awarded the Aspen Conducting Prize, an award recognizing exemplary musicianship in the 2000 Aspen Festival.
