Film l Short Film l Animation l Media Art l Music l Pop-up Market First Outdoor Moving Images Festival: The City Is The Cinema Immersing Yourself into the World of Moving Images for Two Days and Two Nights Organised by Hong Kong Arts Centre and exclusively funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, Jockey Club ifva Everywhere – ifva Carnival, the first local outdoor moving images festival, will take place at the Event Space of Hong Kong Observation Wheel, Central, on 24 to 25 September. Over 125 units of local creative practitioners, including media artists, filmmakers, illustrators, singer-songwriters will join at the Carnival, which combines movies, short films, aminations, media arts, music and market all-in-one. Highlights include: the 48-hour Film Challenge that pushes the boundaries of short film production with passion and effort; drawing on 16mm films to make simple animation; creation of a 360 degree 3D short film by collective effort of each one shooting from a different angle; Open-air Screening of The Posterist, a documentary about Yuen Tai-yung, a local artist known for his creation of over 200 iconic movie posters; alongside Marathon screenings of short films.
FILM TENT AND OPEN-AIR SCREENING Big silver screen, Small film tent Over 100 local and overseas works in a Marathon screening to offer a feast of short films and animations. 6th March by Wong Chun, Beautiful Life by Freddie Chan Ho-lun, Very Fantastic by Stella So, selections from UNICEF, Jumping Frames International Dance Video Festival and Animation Festival of Ars Electronica, etc. The open-air screening will also take place at night, screening The Posterist by Seewai Hui and A Sunny Day by Ying Liang and premieres from 48-hour Film Challenge CINEMATIC PLAYGROUND From galleries to outdoors, from optics to arts Ten units of local art practitioners will showcase their newly commissioned works themed around light and shadow play, exploring unlimited possibilities of media arts. They are: Henry Chu Lik-hang, Chris Cheung Hon-him, Sampson Wong Yu-hin, Jason Lam Chi-fai, Fiona Lee Wing-shan, XCEED, Kenny Wong Chi-chuen, Kenji Wong Wai-kin, Tomy Choi Chi-Chung, Tung Wing-hong and Lio Yeung Lai-ho. EXPERIENCE ZONE First-hand experience of tricks about images Fit for all ages in a family, Experience Zone features workshops on drawing on 16mm films. Hand-drawn images projected, frame by frame, can mean much more than other images taken by your smart phone or digital camera in a snap. There will also be a virtual reality (VR) workshop that allows you to create a world of your own. 48-HOUR FILM CHALLENGE Competing with time, pushing the boundaries of film production Eight teams including teams led by Adam Wong (director of She Remembers, He Forgets), Welby Chung (renowned TV commercial director) and Mo Lai (cross-media artist), will push the boundaries of production and create a brand new short film within 48 hours. These films will be screened on 25 September during the Carnival, to be adjudicated by Nansun Shi (veteran film producer), O Sing-pui (renowned film director and cinematographer) and Eric Poon (documentary filmmaker), as well as voted by the audience. The winner will get a prize of HK$100,000! POP-UP MARKET Music, illustration, stories and food and beverages, you name it Different singer-songwriters including New Youth Barber Shop, Shandy Gan, Chin Tung Tse & Chin Lui Tse, Merry Lamb Lamb, The Black Sheepee, etc. will offer refreshing music that best accompany the Carnival. Illustrators like Flying Pig, Sarene Chan and stalls like “Pop-up Poetry” and “A Secret to A Stranger” will exchange the most intimate drawings and stories with you. Food and beverages as well as free snakes will be provided to give you greater enjoyment at the Carnival.
